This Privacy Policy explains how Ascension (“Briefly AI”, "Briefly" “we”, “our”, or “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you use GetBriefly.net and our related services (collectively, the “Service”).
By using our Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following categories:

a. Account & Identity Information

• Name, email address, and password when you create an account.
• Optional profile information you choose to provide.

b. Payment Information

• Payments are processed securely by Paddle, our Merchant of Record.
• We do not store or access your full credit-card details.
• Paddle may collect limited billing data (e.g., card type, last 4 digits, address, VAT/GST ID) under its own privacy policy.

c. Usage & Technical Data

• IP address, browser type, device information, operating system, pages visited, and session duration.
• Collected automatically via analytics tools such as Google Analytics, PostHog, or Supabase logs.

d. Marketing & Cookies

• We use cookies, web beacons, and pixels from Google Ads, Meta (Facebook/Instagram), Reddit, Quora, TikTok, and other platforms for analytics and advertising performance.
• These may collect non-identifiable data about your visits, conversions, or interactions with ads.

e. Content Data

• When you add websites, YouTube channels, or podcasts to your interests, or submit links for on-demand summarization, we store those selections, related metadata (including limited YouTube metadata obtained via YouTube API Services where applicable), and any summaries generated for your account. See YouTube API Services below for more detail.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected data to:

• Operate and maintain the Service.
• Provide personalized AI-generated summaries.
• Process payments and manage subscriptions.
• Communicate about updates, invoices, and support.
• Improve product performance, UX, and analytics.
• Run lawful advertising, retargeting, and promotional campaigns.
• Detect, prevent, and address security or fraud incidents.

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

3. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and pixels for functionality, analytics, and marketing.
You can manage or delete cookies in your browser settings or through “Do Not Track” preferences.

4. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR/DPDPA)

We rely on:

We never share personal data for unrelated commercial gain.

• Account & usage data are retained while your account is active.
• Summaries and content history may be retained up to 90 days after deletion for backup integrity.
• Cookies last from session-based to 12 months, depending on type.
• We may anonymize data for statistical or research purposes.

7. International Data Transfers

Our servers and providers (Supabase, Paddle, Google) may process data in the EU, UK, and US.
We use standard contractual clauses and comparable safeguards for cross-border transfers.

8. Security

We implement encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and periodic security reviews.
No online system is fully secure; use the Service at your own risk.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may:

• Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
• Withdraw marketing consent at any time.
• Request data export (portability).
• File a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

10. Email & Communication Preferences

• Transactional emails (billing, support) are mandatory.
• Marketing emails are optional and can be unsubscribed via link in each message.
• We comply with CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and IT Rules 2021 (India) regarding consent and opt-out.

11. Advertising & Third-Party Platforms

We advertise through Google Ads, Meta, Reddit, Quora, TikTok, and other networks.
These platforms may use cookies or tracking identifiers to measure conversions and audience reach.
We do not share personally identifying information with them unless explicitly consented to (e.g., custom audiences).

12. Children’s Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under 16.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically.
The “Last updated” date reflects the latest version.
Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Policy.

14. YouTube API Services

Briefly uses YouTube API Services to retrieve public YouTube information when you use YouTube-related features. This may include channel, playlist and video identifiers; titles and descriptions; channel names; thumbnails; publication information; playlist order and item counts; video duration; and availability or privacy status.

We use this information to display YouTube sources and playlist previews, discover requested content, process videos selected for summarization, generate summaries, and maintain your subscribed content sources. We store and process this information using our service providers as described in this Privacy Policy.

Briefly’s use of information received through YouTube API Services is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
Briefly currently accesses public YouTube information using server-side application credentials. Briefly does not request or store your Google or YouTube username, password, or YouTube account authorization tokens.

You may delete a YouTube source through the Sources screen or delete your Briefly account through Settings. Deleting information from Briefly does not delete the corresponding content from YouTube. You must use YouTube to modify or delete information stored by YouTube.

Retention and deletion. You can remove YouTube channels from your interests, delete individual summaries, or delete your entire account at https://app.getbriefly.net/account/delete. You may also request deletion by emailing hello@getbriefly.net. After deletion, associated YouTube-related data is removed from active systems within a reasonable period, subject to limited backup retention described in Section 6.

Google’s privacy policy. Briefly’s use of information received from YouTube API Services is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.

Updates. If our use of YouTube API Services changes materially, we will update this Privacy Policy and revise the “Last updated” date above.
